Agniya Papadatos explores the world around her in search of beauty in the ordinary. As a visual anthropologist, she investigates the tension between connecting to and disconnecting from reality. Although her subjects are often figurative, she alters colors to challenge rules and perception of the viewer. The key aspect of her practice is observing and then reinventing “the reality”, familiar landscapes and objects, making them abstract, which allows her to capture the fleeting essence of a moment rather than realistically rendered composition.
Her process is born experimental and meditative, driven by intuition. Often not knowing what the outcome will be, she fosters curiosity and invites you to celebrate escapism.
